If you're thinking about moving to Victoria and you've got a four-legged family member, you're in luck. Greater Victoria is incredibly dog-friendly, and there are tons of off-leash parks and trails where your pup can run free, sniff every tree, and maybe make a few new friends. I've walked my dogs through just about every park you can think of, from rugged oceanside trails to peaceful grassy fields tucked in residential neighbourhoods. Here’s my personal guide to the best dog parks in the region, including maps to help you find them.

Peter Grant Park - Sidney
This one's a bit of a hidden gem in Sidney. It’s a large, gently forested off-leash area with easy trails, lots of open space, and friendly locals. It’s perfect if you want a shaded walk in the trees where your dog can roam freely.

It’s rugged, scenic, and full of coastal views. Since it's a provincial park, dogs need to be on-leash - please be respectful and bring a leash with you. This park is absolutely massive and you can spend the entire day there.

One of the most popular spots in the region. There are tons of trails, most of which are dog-friendly and off-leash (except near the main beach). The lake loop is a classic. Expect friendly dogs, hikers, and beautiful forested paths.

This massive park has plenty of dog-friendly trails and open space. The Beaver Lake side is especially popular with dog walkers, and you’ll see pups running along the wide lakeside trail. Bonus: there’s even a little swimming area for dogs.

This off-leash field sits just off Cedar Hill Road and is great for a quick run or a game of fetch. It’s not huge, but it’s open, central, and surrounded by nice walking trails. Lots of friendly regulars here.

Located in the heart of the city, Pemberton is an off-leash dog park with a big grassy field and great access to nearby residential areas. It’s great for dogs who love space to run and owners who want to stay close to town.

This one’s iconic. The off-leash path runs along the ocean bluffs and has unbeatable views.
There’s a beach access area where dogs can splash in the water, and it’s usually full of happy, social pups. One of my personal favourites.

Anderson Hill Park - Oak Bay
Quiet, scenic, and surrounded by beautiful homes, this park is a bit of a hidden treasure. Dogs are allowed on leash at any time, and are allowed off leash in the open area on the brow of the hill during July to March. The view at the top is one of the best in Oak Bay. Great for a peaceful afternoon walk.

With a stunning waterfront setting, this park has open space, trails, and water access. It’s a popular spot for folks coming from Sidney or the airport area. Bring a towel, dogs usually find their way to the beach. Ok, let's admit it, they ALWAYS find their way to the beach!

This one’s hidden is pure sight, surrounded by residential homes and locals love it. Dogs can be seen off-leash playing for hours on end. There is parking all around the park, and a children's well-featured playground as well.

Oswald Park - Oaklands
This is a great off-leash dog park and features a walking trail with a large sized and open park area. About six or so parking spots at the park entry and lots of street parking. A children's playground borders the park so you can bring the kids too!

One of the many things I love about Greater Victoria is how welcoming it is to dogs and their humans. Whether you're right in the heart of downtown or out in Sooke or Sidney, there's always a good off-leash park nearby. Some spots are official dog parks, others are more community-kept trails but they all offer a chance to get out, get moving, and explore this amazing part of the world with your pup by your side.
If you’re moving to Victoria and wondering if it’s a good place for dogs, I can tell you from experience: it’s one of the best.
